Short description

Kind is a dating app for people with herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2), available on iPhone and Android. Every profile is photo verified, health data is encrypted, and messaging is included. Kind is free while it is new.

Long description

Kind is a dating app built for the herpes community by a software engineer who lives with HSV. Because every member has HSV-1 or HSV-2, dating on Kind starts without the fear of a disclosure conversation. Every account must pass a live selfie check against its own photos before it appears in discovery. Members’ HSV type is encrypted before storage and is never sold or used for advertising, and optional contact blocking keeps people in a member’s phone contacts from seeing them. Matching learns from each member’s likes and passes. Kind launched on the App Store in June 2026 and on Google Play in July 2026, and it is free while it is new, with every feature included.

Key features

  • Photo verification: a live selfie with a requested pose, compared with the member’s own photos, before the profile appears in discovery
  • Encrypted health data: HSV type is encrypted at the application layer, collected with separate consent, and never sold or used for advertising
  • Contact blocking: phone numbers are hashed on the device to hide a member from people they know
  • Discovery: a swipe deck, a photo grid and a Spotlight feed, with filters that include HSV type
  • Matching that learns from likes and passes and favors mutual interest
  • Kind+: an optional, application-only tier that costs nothing

Context: how common herpes is

The World Health Organization estimates that 3.8 billion people under age 50 (64%) have HSV-1 and 520 million people aged 15 to 49 (13%) have HSV-2. Most infections cause no symptoms or are not recognized. Our herpes statistics page lists more figures with sources.
